About Us

The United Nations Youth Association of Victoria is the state division of a national community-based confederation of United Nations Youth Associations that aims to educate young people in the international issues that concern them, express the opinions and ideals of young people, and empower Australian youth with knowledge and skills to make a difference in their local and international communities. UNYA operates as a not-for-profit volunteer association that sits proudly as the only youth body in Victoria run solely by young people aged 15-24.

UNYA Victoria's primary goal is educating young people about the United Nations and international affairs, with reference to the role of Australians in global issues. Aiming to provide effective means of representation for youth, UNYA has a number of policy co-ordinators and platforms on a wide range of issues, from human rights and social development to international peace and security.

UNYA Victoria holds two major events each year, both of which form components of National Events - the Annual State Conference which is a residential conference held over a weekend, involving over one hundred students discussing and debating issues of local and international concern; and the Thant Trophy Model United Nations Security Council Competition, where the top two teams in Victoria are selected for the national Evatt Trophy Security Council Competition.

UNYA Victoria is governed by its Membership, who set the association's policies and goals through regular General Meetings and elect a Divisional Executive to manage the association on a day-to-day business. The Divisional Executive in turn selects delegates to represent the Association at the biannual sessions of the UNYA Australia National Council. For more details on membership, please click here.

UNYA Victoria also hosts a number of education days on a variety of international issues. These programs, run by trained facilitators, are provided on a non-profit basis to any school interested in them, and can consist of discussion groups, lectures, presentations, Model UN sessions, and other similar events.

If you have any questions or concerns about any facet of the Association's manner, matter, or method, please don't hesitate to make use of our contact page.
